  • Professor Hiroshi Noborio, Department of Computer Science, Osaka Electro-Communication
    University, Japan
    Hiroshi Noborio received the B.Eng. and M.Eng. in the Department of Computer Science from Shizuoka University in 1982 and 1984 respectively. In succession, he received the Ph.D. in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Science, Osaka University in 1987. After getting his Ph.D., he continued to work in the same department as Assistant Professor. In 1988, he moved to the Department of Precision Engineering, Osaka Electro-Communication University as
    Lecturer.
    Moreover, he moved to the Department of Engineering Informatics, the Department of Computer Science among the same university in 1995 and 2015, respectively. From April 1996 to March 1997, he received Humboldt-Fellowship and worked at Lehrstuhl fur Steuerungs- und Regelungstechnik, Technische Universitat Munchen. Also, he worked as Dean of Faculty of Information Science and Arts, Chief of Graduate School of Information Science and Arts, and two department chairs several times. Right now, he is the chair and a professor in the Department of Computer Science.
    His research interests have spanned various areas of Robotics, CV (computer vision), CG (computer graphics), XR (VR+MR+AR). Prof. Noborio has been developing novel methodologies in sensor-based and model-based navigation such as path-planning of mobile robots and motion-planning of a robotic manipulator. Lately, Prof. Noborio has started novel projects in the developments of surgical guiding of dental implant and surgical simulation/navigation of Liver, Kidney, and Brain. In order to process such researches, he has received the Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) program established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) ten or more times, and TATEISHI and SASAGAWA Foundation Research Grants.
    Dr. Noborio nominated his research "Interference Check Algorithm Based on the Representation" by the related papers and videos, which The Robotics Society of Japan has produced and released the robot research and development archive "The History of Robot Research and Development in Japan" as the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Society (October 29, 2014). Also, he published more than 200 papers and 35 international book chapters, and in addition, he has received the best paper awards several times.
